For pendants, you really should have a small collection of chains.
Having an omega or collar, a slightly longer chain, and a really longer chain
will allow you to place the pendant at the right spot for any given outfit.

Open necklines with pendants on omegas just POP!
Longer chains allow you to wear pendants over turtlenecks.

Experiment and play to find the right combinations for your wardrobe.
 Dress a pendant up with a chain or dress it down with a leather cord.
And don’t forget to try your pendants over your favorite strand of beads or pearls!

If you are purchasing a chain as a gift, I would suggest 16" for a petite woman or young girl or 18" for a more normal sized woman. These lengths should lay just under the nape of the neck. If you prefer to have it lower, go for the 20 to 24" length.
