My Cabochon and Faceted Gem Information Pages became too large for my editor. I’ve left them in place, as they make it easy to browse through the entries, but have had to relocate the text for many of the stones to individual pages here. If you are looking for a particular stone, feel free to dive in here. Otherwise you may prefer to start on one of the other two pages.
When creating jewelry, I often think of myself as the third artist - after Mother Nature who created the rock and the lapidary that cut the stone. If you’d like to see what the lapidary starts with, The Gem Shop normally has a good assortment of pictures of "rough" that has been dug out of the ground and is waiting for purchase by a lapidary. You can appreciate the job the lapidary has to envision and cut these wonderful stones from a daunting pile of material.
