When creating jewelry, I often think of myself as the third artist - after Mother Nature who created the rock and the lapidary that cut the stone. If you’d like to see what the lapidary starts with, The Gem Shop normally has a good assortment of pictures of "rough" that has been dug out of the ground and is waiting for purchase by a lapidary. You can appreciate the job the lapidary has to envision and cut these wonderful stones from a daunting pile of material.
